Message from the Director
Hello,
Our Smart Media Service Research Center (SSRC) was established to nurture master's and doctoral level core researchers who will lead the nation's innovative growth by supporting advanced research projects in the field of ICT promising technologies by the Institute of Information & Communications Technology Planning & Evaluation(IITP) of the Ministry of Science, ICT. It was launched in July 2020 as a new project for the University ICT Research Center Promotion Program (ITRC).
Smart media, especially OTT (Over-The-Top), refers to a service that provides media content through the Internet and mobile devices. The size of the global OTT market has grown by about 23% on an annual average since 2016, rising to USD 110 billion (12.28 trillion KRW) in 2020, and the domestic OTT market has also expanded to 780.1 billion KRW as of 2020.
Our center is an elite research group composed of top experts with outstanding expertise and competence in the technology (AI, communication technology, security, brain engineering) field, data science (big data application development) field, and media industry (market policy) field. We aim to grow into a global-level research group that leads OTT research through convergence research that encompasses OTT-based technology, intelligent technology, data science, content, and platform.
For 8 years from July 2020, our center has developed innovative technologies and policies through interdisciplinary, intergenerational, regional, industry-academic joint and cooperative research and innovative and challenging research as a R&D and policy partner of the Ministry of Science and ICT. We want to contribute to the development of the media ecosystem. In addition, we aim to cultivate global-level researchers equipped with an understanding of smart media technology, data analysis on the ecosystem, and social science insights on markets and policies.
Even if our center cannot provide a detailed map of the future of smart media services, we will do our best to provide you with a compass that tells you the right direction. If you would like to cooperate with our center in research or other fields, please do not hesitate to contact us.
